SCOTT HARRIS ’05 Detroit Tigers President of Baseball Operations

Harris has had a swift and impressive ascent through the ranks of Major League Baseball. After returning home to the Bay Area as the General Manager of the San Francisco Giants in 2019, he left the Giants to become the President of Baseball Operations with the Detroit Tigers in 2022. In the last decade, he has contributed to a historic championship in Chicago and become one of the game’s brightest young executives.

Before his time with the Giants, Harris worked at Major League Baseball in New York, attended Columbia Business School, and spent seven impactful years with the Chicago Cubs, joining the organization as the Director of Baseball Operations in 2012. During that time, he earned an MBA from the Northwestern Kellogg School of Management and was promoted to Assistant General Manager of the Cubs. During his tenure, the Cubs made the postseason four times and won the 2016 World Series, which famously ended a 108-year championship drought.

In 2024, Harris led the Detroit Tigers to the postseason for the first time in 10 seasons and won a postseason series for the first time in 11 seasons. In 2025, the Tigers reached the postseason in consecutive seasons for the first time since the 2013-14 seasons.

Harris was a dual-sport athlete at Menlo School, playing both soccer and lacrosse. He played club lacrosse at UCLA, where he earned his bachelor’s degree in international economics.

Scott Harris’ parents Joanne Nino, far left, and Robert Harris, second from right, with Robert Lurie ’45, Connie Lurie, and Than Healy, accepted the Robert A. Lurie Distinguished Athletics Award on Scott’s behalf.
