Knights Competing Professionally

Griff McGarry ’17 was traded to the Los Angeles Dodgers from the Washington Nationals this spring. He is 2-0 with a 5.119 ERA with one save and 27 strikeouts in 17⅓ innings for Triple-A Oklahoma City. The right-hander had a 3.16 ERA in 18 starts between Double-A Tulsa and Triple-A Lehigh Valley (one start) last season. … Julien Hernandez ’20 signed with the Arizona Diamondbacks out of Long Beach, where he went 1-0 with a 2.89 ERA across 13 relief appearances. During that span, he held opposing hitters to a .115 batting average. ... Kiefer Lord ’20 holds a 5.72 ERA with 65 strikeouts in 39⅓ innings pitched for the Frederick Keys, Baltimore Orioles High Class-A affiliate.

Men’s Basketball

Lucas Vogel ’23 played in eight games as a guard for the Washington University in St. Louis men’s team, which finished 20-8 overall and advanced to the NCAA Div. III Sweet 16.

Women’s Basketball

In their freshman seasons at the University of Chicago, Ruiqi Liu ’25 posted 42 points, 17 rebounds and 13 assists in 19 games, and Karen Xin ’25 had 66 points, 20 rebounds, and 8 steals. The Maroons (20-8) finished the season ranked No. 17 in NCAA Div. III and advanced to the Elite 8 for only the second time in school history.

Emma Donley ’23, along with senior Portia Sherman, at No. 1 for Cal, became the program’s all-time winningest duo for a single season and a career. They picked up a straight-set victory against Stanford to finish the season with a 31-5 mark and a career mark of 59-12. The No. 8 Bears fell to top seed Stanford in the quarterfinals of the NCAA Championship.

Princeton senior Jeremy Yun ’21, whose Prime Video drama The Runarounds with his band aired its first season in April, finished as the men’s third individual at The Prestige in February and the fourth individual at the Princeton Invitational … Marcus Ying ’22 closed his four-year career, having played 10 rounds with a low of 77, for Denison, which finished sixth at the conference final. … Eric Yun ’24 was Princeton’s fifth team finisher at the Princeton Invitational and the Ivy League Championships, where the Tigers took second. … For the Amherst women, sophomore Joelle Kim ’24 was the team’s fourth player at the NCAA Championships, and the Mammoths placed seventh, their best finish in school history since taking third in the nation in 2002.

Williams long-stick midfielder Aidan Housenbold ’22 was named all-New England Honorable Mention after he led the team with 33 caused turnovers, while ranking in a tie for second in the conference in total caused turnovers and fourth in caused turnovers per game (1.83). He collected 66 groundballs for the Ephs, who defeated No. 14 St. John Fisher, 6-5, in the second round of the NCAA Tournament, winning their first game on the national stage since advancing to the Final Four in 2019. … Sam Scola ’22 played in 30 games and picked up 23 groundballs as a four-year midfielder for Bates. … Ari Krane ’23 started eight of 12 games as a defender for Vassar. … Bradford Tudor ’24 played in four games as a sophomore midfielder for Middlebury, which fell in the third round of the NCAA Div. III Championships to top seed Tufts.

Men’s Rowing

MIT sophomore Sam Warman ’24 and his second varsity men’s eights crew made their way to the Grand Final with a runner-up finish in their heat and then finished sixth, just under seven seconds behind Williams, which placed fourth (6:10.737).

Women’s Rowing

Tessa Tomkinson ’22 wrapped up a four-year career on Brown crew with the women’s second varsity eights (2V8), which finished the Petite Final in fifth place with a time of 6:08.770 at the NCAA Championships. The 2V8 race was the most competitive of the day, with the Bears narrowly missing out on fourth- and third-place finishes by less than 1.5 seconds. … Kate Ward ’24 raced with Colby’s varsity eights, which took second in the Presidents Cup. Her boat took fourth in the Petite Final of the National Invitational Rowing Championship in Worcester, MA.

Men’s Swimming

Connor Grant ’24 locked in his conference championship in the 200 freestyle in his second season for Occidental. He set a school record twice this year in the 200: first in his split in the 800 freestyle relay and second, in the final (1:39.07). Grant swam a leg on the school record-breaking 800 free relay, placing sixth in the conference with a time of 6:50.27.

Women’s Swimming & Diving

Emory Tudor ’22 finished her four-year career at Amherst, taking ninth in the 500 free in 5:03.51 at the conference championships. Tudor also took third in the 200 backstroke at an early season meet in Worcester, MA. … Middlebury sophomore Sage Huddleston ’24 swam a leg of the women’s 800 free relay, earning 20 points at the conference championships. … Army freshman Eden Chuang ’25 took second in the 200 butterfly at the Army Invitational and finished second in the 200 breaststroke in the Black Knights’ dual meet win against Loyola Maryland. … Ella Litsur ’25 scored personal bests in the 1- and 3-meter dives as University of Chicago took third place at the conference championships.

Men’s Tennis

Mick Tamas ’22 went 13-8 with Aden Dorris at No. 3 doubles. Tamas finished his four-year career at Bowdoin, which went 19-5 and advanced to the NCAA Div. III quarterfinals. … Nikhil Agarwal ’23 played No. 1 nearly all season as a junior for Connecticut College. He went 4-10 at the top spot and 4-8 at doubles, typically playing at No.2.

Evan Burnett ’24 closed his sophomore season with a 16-3 record in doubles and was 10-5 in singles for Texas (29-7). The NCAA finalist Longhorns tied the program record for most wins in a season, falling 4-3 in the national title match. He delivered match-clinching singles victories against nationally ranked Oklahoma and Georgia, while also helping secure the doubles point against Georgia with Jonah Braswell. Burnett will play for Michigan next season.

Lewis & Clark junior Charlotte Makoni ’23 earned conference third-team singles honors after finishing 11-13 overall while competing at No. 1 and No. 2 and held a 7-8 mark at No. 1 doubles.

Men’s Track & Field

University of Chicago junior William Floyd ’23 reached the pole vault finals of the NCAA Div. III Outdoor Championships and cleared 4.75 meters for 17th place. He also cleared 16-9 at the St. Francis Invitational and ran the 100 in 11.57 at the WashU Invitational. ... Cal junior Justin Pretre ’23 ran the 1,500 meters in 3:43.54 at the NCAA West Regionals. In May, Pretre ran the 1,500 in 3:40.56 for a personal-best and beat his own time at the No. 5 spot all-time for the Bears. … In his first season at Grinnell, Joshua Benyo Baker ’25 took 11th in the 3,000 meters at the Dutch Invitational and 15th in the 5,000 at the Grinnell Invitational. … Wake Forest freshman Landon Pretre ’25 placed 13th in the 1,500 at the Atlantic Coast Conference Outdoor Championships in 3:42.13, second in the mile in 4:05.27 at the Mondo College (NC) meet, and 17th in the 5,000m in 14:16.47 at the Duke Invitational.

Women’s Track & Field

Charlotte Tomkinson ’20, a graduate student at Georgetown, secured a return trip to the NCAA Outdoor Championships in Eugene, Ore., by clocking 4:11.86 in the 1,500 quarterfinals, earning All-America honors. She took third in the 800 at the Duke Twilight, finishing as the second-fastest collegian in the event and shattering the program record with a time of 2:01.56.

Alina Hernandez ’22 closed her four-year career as an attacker for Scripps College. … Kenya Cassidy ’24 posted nine goals, 11 assists, and 10 steals in her debut season for UC San Diego, which advanced to the conference quarterfinals.
