Alumni Events

Menlo alumni never miss a chance to reconnect, celebrate, and support one another! Over the past few months, they’ve come together at events both new and time-honored—from the fall soccer and basketball games to a memorable Alumni Board celebration. Whether alums are reminiscing about old times or forging new connections, every gathering has been filled with energy, laughter, and the unmistakable Menlo spirit.

SteelMike Shootout 2025

The Children’s Health Council (CHC) SteelMike Shootout is an annual community basketball tournament and fundraiser that brings families together to support teen mental health. The event was created in honor of Michael Harris ’08, an alum and former Menlo counselor, who tragically passed away in a boating accident.

Hosted in partnership with Menlo School, which has served as the event’s home for the last decade, the Shootout features a friendly basketball tournament (multiple divisions for middle school, high school, and adult players), a lively block party for kids of all ages, and opportunities for teens to learn practical strategies to support their mental health. In past years, the event has proudly brought together hundreds of teens and families to connect and support this important cause. All proceeds directly fund adolescent mental health services at CHC. The event takes place annually at the end of August.

The tournament was launched by alumni Lindsey Barnett ’08 and Matt Bourett ’08 in Michael’s memory. Lindsey and Matt have led the event ever since, in partnership with Michael’s family as well as with Ana McMan ’08, Alex Curtis ’08, Kelly Umberg ’10, and Taylor Chaubard ’10.

Battle of the Classes 2025

Battle of the Classes is Menlo’s annual alumni fundraising drive for the Alumni Scholarship Fund (ASF) and takes place in the fall.

The sixth annual Battle of the Classes competition ended on November 13, 2025, and achieved a 14 percent overall participation rate! This accomplishment reflects the enthusiasm Menlo alumni have for staying connected and giving back to support future generations.

Most Improved: Class of 1986 (+ 11 new donors)
Young Alumni: 2016 (17% participation)
