Homecoming & Reunion Weekend on Campus Celebrating classes ending in 4s and 9s

EVENT RECAP

Menlo School’s official Homecoming and Reunion Weekend was filled with memorable events and reminded us that it’s the people who make Menlo such a special place.

The festivities began on Friday afternoon with a tailgate at Cartan Field before the Homecoming varsity football game against Menlo-Atherton. On Saturday morning, alumnae had the chance to reunite in the pool for a girls’ water polo game with Coach Kyle Utsumi. The afternoon featured the Athletics Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony, celebrating multiple generations of Menlo’s outstanding athletes. The weekend concluded with a Saturday evening Reunion celebration, with cocktails, dinner, and music under the campus’s historic oaks.

Our alumni celebrants who graduated 50 or more years ago were invited to a seated dinner in the former faculty lounge (now Davis Conference Room) in Stent Hall (formerly Douglass Hall). Members of the Classes of 1959 and 1974 joined us for this gathering, which included a display of Menlo memorabilia and a visit from the current Head of School, Than Healy, who offered thoughts on the throughlines of a Menlo education and where the School is headed today.

Alumni-Led Reunion Celebrations

Some alumni classes like to get a head start on reunion planning, rallying their far-flung and busy classmates well before the official Homecoming & Reunion schedule is announced. This year, the Classes of 1964 and 1969 took the initiative, organizing their own off-campus reunions during the weekends leading up to our big celebration!

Class of 1964 60th Reunion: October 11-12

The Menlo School Class of 1964 gathered to celebrate its 60th reunion on October 11 and 12 at Dinah’s Garden Inn in Palo Alto. Thirteen classmates attended: Jim Adler, Tom Alexander, Bruce Benton, Cullen Coates, Sam Felix, Bill Jarrott, Mike Kenner, Jon Lawson, Tom Love, Kim McKeller, Jim Odriozola, Doug Williams, and John Zinke, along with five of their spouses, Ursula Adler, Connie Kenner, Carolyn Love, Anne Marie McKeller, and Lulu Williams.

Read all about their time together on their blog!

The class would like to thank Mike Kenner for organizing the event and all the plus ones for capturing photos of everyone.

Class of 1969 55th Reunion: October 4-6

The Menlo School Class of 1969 celebrated its 55th reunion during the weekend of October 4-6. The festivities began with the “Peter Bonde ’69 Invitational Bocce Tournament” on Friday afternoon in Los Gatos, followed by dinner at Alice’s Restaurant on Skyline Boulevard and a fireside gathering at a classmate’s home in Woodside.

Saturday morning brought alumni back to campus for coffee, bagels, and a guided campus tour led by Katie ’94 and Erin ’02 from the Menlo Alumni Office, followed by lunch at the Dutch Goose. The day’s main event was an evening reception and dinner at David Dubbs’s Woodside residence. The group gathered one more time on Sunday for a farewell brunch at the Stanford Golf Course.

The weekend drew alumni from across the country, demonstrating the lasting bonds forged at Menlo more than five decades ago. Special thanks to David Dubbs for organizing the weekend and bringing the Class of 1969 together once again.
