1950s

The enduring spirit of the Class of 1959 shines through, thanks in part to dedicated Class Agents Al McKee ’59 and Len Edwards ’59. Recently, Al reached out to classmates with a note reflecting on the years since their Menlo graduation and asking for updates. The responses revealed a group that continues to meet life with humor, optimism, and perspective. Classmates shared stories of travel, golf, exercise routines, beloved pets, and growing families, while others reflected on the friendships and memories that have endured since their days on Douglass Lawn. Sixty-seven years later, the Menlo spirit is still alive and well among the Class of 1959. Read the full quotes here.

Michael Devine ’59 is working on developing a history museum for Pismo Beach (everything from clams to Al Capone). He says, “Hang in there and cherish the Menlo memories, good and bad. And keep on truckin’.”

Len Edwards ’59 has a grandson in Menlo’s Class of 2026 who will attend Northeastern University in Boston. His brother, Menlo Class of 2025, attends Boston College.

Ron Hall ’59 and his wife Linda have four children (two boys and two girls) and 11 grandchildren. The couple loves to travel to see their grandchildren and to other places, having visited Mexico, Europe, the Caribbean, and the Hawaiian Islands over the years. Ron shared that he hopes to be able to attend the next Class of 1959 Menlo reunion, saying, “We’ll keep our fingers crossed and our faith strong.”

Jim Mason ’59 is still in Mariposa and is feeling good after a heart ablation last October. He is working out three days a week and walking, as well, although “a bit slower than an infantry pace.” He and his wife have some upcoming travel, with a trip every month, mostly in California. Their big trip will be in October to Canada with stops in Toronto, Montreal, and Quebec.

Kim Waterhouse ’59 will be selling his home in Bend, OR, this fall, making Sun Lakes, AZ, his only home (should be easier). Before then, the summer will be busy with trips to Maui and the Big Island and several RV trips out to the Oregon Coast.

Roger Wilkison ’59 has been in and out of the country for long spells since the beginning of the year but is now back in DC. He and his wife are both getting cataract surgery this summer and hope to get back to their normal schedule in 2027. He reports, “Healthwise, I’m hanging in there but have to operate at a slower speed.”

Bill Wilson ’59 is still living in Carmel, still flying, still sailing, still boating, still traveling, and still “addicted to exercise.” He says, “I do count my blessings daily, probably hourly, for good health and a great life with my wife Patty (54 years), three daughters, and five grandchildren.”

1960s

On a recent visit to England, Richard Dubbs ’66 was invited into the Manchester City dressing room, where he took the picture shown here next to Erling Haaland’s jersey. Richard is retired and lives in New York City, spending summers in Stonington, CT, and visiting England twice a year to see Manchester City play.

1970s

Rob Richmond ’77 catches up with classmates and former faculty at Bay Area sporting events

David Van Horn ’77 is retired in the Sierra foothills and making the most of it. Life is good.

Chris Paine ’79 and Roger Zamora ’04 crossed paths recently on the ferry from Catalina Island to Los Angeles. Roger, returning from the Trans Catalina Trail, recognized the Menlo alumni hat Chris was wearing from a recent LA event. The pair spent the hour-long commute exchanging stories and reflecting on their shared Menlo experiences and friendships.

1980s

Robert Rich ’81 reports that after 32 years in Mountain View (and a lifetime in the South Bay), he and his wife Dixie sold their house and moved to Carmel in 2021. Robert is still recording and releasing new music, performing a bit less often, and enjoying life.

Allison (Turner) Brennan ’87 recently celebrated 20 years as a published author. Whisper Creek was released in June. Her 52nd book is a Texas-set thriller about a grieving widow fighting to protect her farm and her family from a destructive storm and dangerous thieves. Allison enjoys living in Arizona, where she relocated in 2019, and especially loves spending time with her three-year-old grandson. She and her husband Dan are almost empty nesters, though they are grateful that three of their five kids live nearby. You can keep up with Allison through her newsletter at murdershewrites.com.

Mark McGee ’87 is retiring from the corporate world this year and launching a film production business. He would love to connect with fellow alumni working in film and other creative arts. Mark currently lives right across the street from the SF Giants ballpark and invites local alumni to swing by to tailgate before a game!

1990s

David Scopp ’94, after many years focused primarily on litigation and appellate work, recently launched Meaningful Legacy Law PC on the Monterey Peninsula, where he helps families with estate planning and trust and estate administration. His practice is rooted in a relationship-centered approach designed to keep loved ones out of court and conflict.

Outside of work, life is full with his two boys and lots of time near the ocean. He and his older son recently competed together in the Carmel Surfabout surf contest (with more enthusiasm than style), and he continues to surf regularly around Carmel and Monterey whenever he can.

At 50, David finds himself increasingly grateful for family, community, good health, and the opportunity to build work that feels aligned with who he is.

Jennifer Erwin ’98 lives just outside Baltimore, MD, with her husband and their two children (ages 11 and 2). She recently transitioned from leading her academic research lab at Johns Hopkins to becoming the Chief Scientific Officer at Aluco Biosciences, where she develops new medicines for the brain and metabolism. It is a career path she has envisioned since Menlo’s Independent Research class first sparked her interest, and she remains grateful to the faculty who shaped those early passions. She would love to connect with fellow alumni!

2000s

Chris Francis ’04 and his wife Kristen Francis welcomed their first child, Hannah Ryan Francis, in July of 2025.

2010s

Richard Harris ’12 and his wife, Jenny, welcomed a son, Henry Michael Harris, on May 5, 2026. Born at 11:23 pm, Henry arrived weighing a healthy 9 pounds, 6 ounces, and measuring 21.5 inches long.

2020s

Amory Healy ’25 accepted a job offer for her fall co-op at Northeastern in a role that aligns with her combined major of biology and English. She will be spending the summer and fall in Cambridge working in communications at Flagship Pioneering, a venture capital firm focused on funding biotech, health, and sustainability.
